Before she was a mother, Pattie Mallette endured a childhood marked by trauma. In her memoir, Nowhere But Up: The Story of Justin Bieber’s Mom, she opens up about years of sexual abuse that left her carrying shame and self-blame. “It’s something so many survivors experience,” she reflects. “You feel like there’s something inherently wrong with you. I definitely carried that burden.”

The weight of her experiences grew heavier during her teenage years, culminating in a suicide attempt. “It was the result of years of abuse, coupled with depression and substance abuse,” Mallette shared. “Drugs and alcohol only made things worse. It was a breaking point.”

At just 17, Mallette discovered she was pregnant with Justin Bieber. Pressure to terminate the pregnancy came from all directions, yet she stood firm. “I just recognized that I couldn’t go through with it,” she said. “I didn’t know how I was going to manage, but I was determined to do my best. I had to give him a chance.”

Her determination carried her through the immense challenges of being a young, single mother. When Justin was born, Mallette recalls the moment vividly. “I know it might sound strange, but his cry sounded like music,” she said. “It was like, ‘A hah, a hah,’ and I thought, ‘This is the most precious sound I’ve ever heard.’ I just wanted to hold him forever.”

Through her unwavering commitment and resilience, Mallette guided Justin from infancy to international stardom. Her story is one of survival, faith, and unconditional love—proof that one courageous decision can shape generations.

Her memoir delves into the struggles and triumphs she faced along the way. “I didn’t have all the answers,” she admits, “but I was committed to giving him the best life I could.”

Today, Pattie Mallette’s journey stands as a testament to overcoming adversity, embracing purpose, and nurturing life, even under the most difficult circumstances.
