Buying your first home is supposed to be one of life’s happiest milestones. For many people, it represents years of saving, planning, and imagining a future finally coming together. That was exactly how Amber Hall felt when she stepped into a four-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Centennial, Colorado. And it wasn’t just one.
It was more than one snake.
Amber later described the creatures as unexpectedly large, noting that they appeared to be some type of garter snake, though their size was far beyond what most people would consider normal.
“Shockingly big,” she said. “After all the research, everybody’s saying they’re some form of garter snake. But they’re also giving the caveat that nobody’s ever seen their garter snake that big.”
The discovery immediately changed the feeling of the entire house. What had once felt like a safe, exciting new home suddenly became something uncertain and unsettling. Every corner, every wall, and every shadow now felt suspicious.
For Amber, even simple tasks like unpacking became difficult. She began worrying that snakes could be hiding anywhere—in boxes, under furniture, or inside spaces she couldn’t see. The emotional toll of that kind of uncertainty quickly built up.
“I can’t unpack any of my stuff because I’m definitely afraid that there’s snakes in the boxes or under the boxes,” she explained. “It’s like you crawl into bed, and if the sheet brushes your foot or something, you immediately rip the covers off or jump out of bed to make sure nothing’s in there.”
