Thirty Bikers Showed Up Outside a Roofer’s Home After He Failed to Finish an Elderly Man’s Roof

An 86-year-old widower had been waiting for six weeks for a roofing contractor to complete a project he had already paid $17,400 for. Despite receiving the payment, the contractor had left the roof unfinished, with construction materials scattered around the property. With winter approaching, the elderly homeowner was becoming increasingly concerned.

When the man’s family friend, Bertram, learned about the situation, he decided to help. Rather than allowing the matter to continue without answers, he reached out to a group of fellow motorcycle enthusiasts.

By Tuesday evening, approximately thirty bikers had gathered outside the contractor’s home. They remained calm and peaceful, with no threats or aggressive behavior. Bertram eventually approached the front door and explained the situation to the contractor.

He told him about the elderly homeowner, the money that had already been paid, and the unfinished roofing project. He simply wanted to know how the contractor intended to resolve the problem.

Faced with the seriousness of the situation, the contractor finally agreed to take action. He contacted his workers and instructed them to return the following morning to complete the project.

The next day, the roofing crew arrived and began working. Over the following two days, they finished the roof, cleared away the remaining materials, and cleaned the surrounding property.

To ensure everything had been done correctly, an independent licensed contractor later inspected the work and confirmed that the project had been completed satisfactorily.

There was another important development. The original contractor returned $11,000 of the payment and signed a written agreement outlining how the remaining balance would be repaid. The homeowner’s attorney documented the arrangement to protect his interests and maintain a clear record of the outstanding amount.

That evening, the group of bikers returned to visit the elderly homeowner. Wearing his slippers, the man stepped outside to thank Bertram personally.

He proudly mentioned his years of service in the United States Marine Corps, explaining that he had never expected anyone to fight his battles for him.

Bertram smiled and clarified that nobody had come looking for a fight. They had simply wanted to make sure an elderly man received the work he had already paid for.

Meanwhile, the homeowner’s family submitted a formal complaint to the state contractor licensing board, providing the repayment agreement and other relevant documentation.

With the roof finally completed before winter, the elderly man could enjoy some peace of mind. The scattered construction materials were gone, the property was clean, and the uncertainty surrounding the project had finally come to an end.

For his family, the experience was a reminder that standing up for someone does not always require confrontation. Sometimes, offering support, asking the right questions, and making sure a person’s concerns are taken seriously can make all the difference.

And for one elderly homeowner, knowing that people were willing to stand beside him meant just as much as having a finished roof.
