This morning, I noticed several strange little objects sitting on my slippers beside the bed.
My first reaction was pure panic.
They were tiny, brown, almost perfectly identical, and arranged so neatly that my first thought was that I was looking at insect eggs.
For several minutes, I simply stood there staring at them.
I didn’t want to touch them.
The discovery was so unexpected that I immediately started wondering how they could possibly have appeared there overnight.
Had something crawled across the floor while I was asleep?
The closer I looked, the stranger the objects seemed.
Their texture was unusual, their shapes were nearly identical, and tiny fragments were scattered around them.
For a moment, I genuinely wondered whether I had somehow discovered a living creature hiding somewhere inside my bedroom.
My imagination quickly went to some unpleasant places.
Maybe the objects had been carried inside on my shoes.
Perhaps an insect had somehow gotten into the room and left them beside my bed.
I even started wondering whether something might be hiding nearby.
What confused me most was their exact location.
They were sitting directly on top of my slippers.
I couldn’t remember stepping on anything unusual the night before, and I couldn’t think of any obvious reason they would suddenly be there.
Instead of simply throwing the slippers away, I decided to investigate.
I examined the tiny objects carefully, compared them with photographs, and searched for possible explanations.
The more information I found, the less alarming the discovery became.
Eventually, I found the answer.
They weren’t insect eggs.
They weren’t insects.
And they weren’t alive at all.
They were simply flax seeds.
Their small size, brown color, and unusual shape had made them look much more mysterious than they really were.
Most likely, a few flax seeds had accidentally become attached to my clothing, socks, or shoes and eventually dropped onto my slippers beside the bed.
What had initially looked like a disturbing discovery turned out to be completely harmless.
It was a simple reminder that appearances can sometimes be misleading.
Something that looks frightening or mysterious at first may have an incredibly ordinary explanation—and sometimes our imagination can make a harmless situation seem much scarier than it actually is.
