On most evenings, nothing unusual happened there.

The door opened softly, and a woman stepped inside.

At first, almost no one noticed her.

She paused near the entrance, glancing around the room quietly. Her coat was old and worn, the fabric faded from years of use. Her shoes looked practical rather than stylish, and her hair was loosely tied back in a way that suggested she had other concerns besides appearances.

In a place filled with polished shoes and expensive perfume, she looked out of place.

The maître d’ noticed her immediately.

“Good evening,” he said.
