“Then explain why you were on top of my daughter telling her she saw nothing.”<\/p>\n
She opened her mouth, but nothing came out fast enough. That hesitation mattered more than another argument would have.<\/p>\n
Behind me, Lily’s breathing was still uneven. I crouched without turning my back completely on Marlene and held out my free hand.<\/p>\n
